Chapter 1, where we meet Tut and Tam for the first time

Morning was Tut and Tam’s favorite time of day. In the mornings the adults would send Tutsi to school and then leave for work shortly thereafter. As soon as the morning bustle was over and the front door was shut, Tut and Tam would come out for their morning walk. Tut would visit the kitchen first, to check if any goodies were left over on the table after breakfast. Tam would run straight for the living room – perhaps the morning newspaper would already be waiting for him on the coffee stand. Tam couldn’t read the giant letters, but he enjoyed looking at the pictures that would sometimes be printed in papers.

Wait a minute, you are still not familiar with our heroes, are you? What an oversight! Well, let me introduce to you – Tut and Tam. They live in apartment number 8 on Andersen street in the great city of Stockholm. Along with Tut and Tam, the apartment is occupied by mom Erika, dad Gustav and daughter Tutsi. Oh yes, and there is also the cat Marquis. His name is Marquis because of his deep blue eyes and the noble coat.

You still have not guessed who our heroes are? These creatures have many names, depending on which part of the world you are from. They are sometimes called hobgoblins or brownies, and where I come from we call them domovoi or barabashka (Tut does not like that name), but we will simply call them Tut and Tam.

Our heroes are very tiny – the size of your little finger. That’s why they always get into funny adventures and quagmires. Tut wears a green velvet caftan with large golden buttons that he inherited from Grandpa Bim and that he is very proud of. Tut also has a small belly (he just really likes to eat well). Tam wears a blue velvet caftan with silver buttons. He is very inquisitive, and our heroes get into trouble mostly because of him.

Well, now you know our heroes very well and we are ready to set out on our journey!
